I have a great fondness for the many dogs who have been loyal companions through the years. Labradors retrievers, especially, have stolen my heart. Below are photos of Riley, Kady, and Guinness.

Kady is Riley’s mother and Guinness is Riley’s uncle (from his paternal side). These full-blooded Labradors do very well trekking through the mountains on my hikes, and I feel safe with them nearby.

Below are some of my favorite quotes about canines, a.k.a. humankind’s best friends.

“All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. For after all, he was only human. He wasn’t a dog.”  ~ Charles Shulz

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” ~ Will Rogers

“If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.” ~ Harry Truman

“Some of my best leading men have been dogs and horses.” ~ Actress Elizabeth Taylor

“If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.” ~ Woodrow Wilson

Guinness, named in honor of the beer I shared with the Irish Air Corps. I called him “the foam on top of the draft.”
